PNConnect Insight – The big takeaway here is that Facebook sees Live video as distinct from other videos, and so will take a different approach to ranking it in the News Feed. Specifically, Facebook is taking an initial step of prioritizing in-progress Live video over previously recorded Live video, following the rationale that people are much less interested in Live videos after the fact. Between this adjustment and the addition of video to the Moments app, it’s clear Facebook is feeling the heat and wants to Force-choke Periscope. There’s also a report that the company is so anxious to get celebrities to adopt Live (who will in turn get all us regular people interested) that it’s making a direct appeal to the rich and famous, involving cash and the promise of eventual ad revenue sharing.
