The TORCH Program is hosting its first-ever poker tournament fundraiser, TORCH Texas Hold ‘Em, Wednesday, May 18th from 6-11 pm at Slate. TORCH, which stands for Together Our Resources Can Help, provides under served New York City public high school students with intensive exposure to career training and opportunities in communications and the arts, all while facilitating a meaningful way of increasing the diversity of the workforce in those industries.
Porter Novelli has partnered with TORCH for the last several years, working directly with the students to provide hands-on training in PR with an additional goal of helping the communications industry establish a more diverse talent pool. Not only are TORCH students bright, talented and creative, they are also incredibly confident and poised. TORCH gives them the structure, guidance and career exposure to help them identify and realize their career aspirations. As Debi Deutsch, the executive director of TORCH, often says to the students: “You don’t know what you can’t know.”
The TORCH Program is a key component of Porter Novelli’s diversity initiatives. Last year, Porter Novelli was the first public relations agency to be honored with a L.I.G.H.T. award by The TORCH Program. The TORCH L.I.G.H.T. Awards – which honor Leadership, Inspiration, Guidance, Heart and Teaching – acknowledge those organizations and individuals who have helped make a difference in the lives of the students involved.
Please join us at the first Annual TORCH Texas Hold ‘Em to help support an amazing organization. All players receive a free night’s stay at Caesars Atlantic City and the opportunity to win several prizes. Top prize is a $10,000 Seat at the World Series of Poker Main Event in Las Vegas.
