With only 8,040 Cannes Lions related mentions across the social media landscape on Thursday – the lowest volume in three days – conversation volume is dropping a bit as the festival comes to a close. An anecdotal sense of smaller crowds is borne out by the reduced conversation levels. We do anticipate a spike around the Titanium awards on Saturday.
Our own Porter Novelli folks Danny Devriendt and Marta Majewska have snagged the “top tweeters” spots one and two respectively from an activity standpoint (independently confirmed by the festival daily digest, Cannes Connexions). Perhaps even more impressively, they also appear to be trailing only @canneslions in overall retweet reach!
The 100th anniversary of David Ogilvy’s birth drove significant conversation.
Ogilvy’s Inspiration seminar with Sir Ken Robinson and McCann’s seminar with will.i.am also generated the most buzz.
· When evaluating campaign mentions, Arcade Fire’s “Wilderness Downtown” was the most frequently discussed, despite not being created by a traditional agency. The campaign allows you to create a music video for the song “Wilderness Downtown” automatically by using shots of your neighborhood from Google Earth after taking your address and is widely admired. Jay-Z Decoded continues to acquire additional admiration and mentions, indicating it will likely be cited for some time to come.
