Never miss important Tweets from people you follow
(Twitter Blog, 2/10/16)
PNConnect Insight – Sigh… Less than a week after rumors about this began — rumors that led to a denial by CEO Jack Dorsey that looks somewhat suspect in retrospect — Twitter has begun rolling out an algorithm-based Timeline. Essentially an extended version of the “While You Were Away” feature, the new format will place high-engagement posts Twitter thinks will be relevant to you at the top of your Timeline, pushing the reverse-chronological updates down below that.
For content marketers, the implications could be significant. It will become more important than ever for brand updates to emphasize engagement in order to be seen, since, as we’ve said before, “engagement begets engagement” in an algorithmic world. Tweets will need to trip the magic wire to make it into the top updates people see. For now, users can opt-out by tweaking their settings, but this may not be an option in the future. What remains to be seen is whether or not this is the magic bullet to make Twitter easier to use for new users. You can read more on this on the Voce blog.
