As a new OPRG report sheds light on the challenge of health equity, Porter Novelli’s new offering empowers companies to become part of the solution
NEW YORK, November 8, 2023 – As part of its Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) Advisory Services, Porter Novelli, the strategic communications company built on purpose to Do Business Better, has launched Equity Intervention, a new offering to support companies as they look to create health equity strategies and programs.
The Enduring Challenge of Health Equity
This launch aligns with the recent publication of an eye-opening new report by Porter Novelli’s parent company Omnicom PR Group (OPRG), The Intersection of Health Equity in Communities & Business Strategy: A Call-to-Action. Published in partnership with The Atlantic, the report investigates the lived experiences of diverse communities around the globe, and their access to healthcare.
Among OPRG’s report’s key insights, 62% of its more than 6,000 respondents reported experiencing explicit discrimination when seeking healthcare, while 77% reported a lack of trust in the healthcare system. These findings were most pronounced among non-White, LGBTQAI+, and immigrant communities. View the full report here.
An Approach for Every Phase of the Health Equity Journey
Porter Novelli’s Equity Intervention assesses a company’s current state in relation to systemic inadequacies, properties, and assets, as well as clients and barriers, while helping companies discern their greatest opportunity for impact. Based on these assessments, Porter Novelli designs an intervention strategy specific to a company’s individual goals, and then drives adoption through communications that incite action. The process results in a program that empowers companies to make bold moves that drive forward health equity in ways that are authentic to their organization.
“There is a business case for organizations to commit to health equity, from employee engagement to product development and brand reputation,” says Maura Bergen, EVP, Health Lead at Porter Novelli. “By clarifying and confronting the issues they face, our new Equity Intervention offering can help companies do business better, and be a force for good.”
Deidra Johnson, VP, Global JEDI Advisory Services Practice Lead at Porter Novelli, adds: “Health equity is achieved when everyone can attain their full potential for health and well-being, and language and communication are its key drivers. Through our Equity Intervention, Porter Novelli can support governments, companies and non-profits at any stage of their journey to define, shape, and communicate their role in creating health equity.”
